High-Scoring Thriller: The England vs India T20 semi-final 2026 turned into a run-fest as India national cricket team posted a massive 253 runs, their explosive batting putting huge pressure on England cricket team in a dramatic World Cup clash.
Sanju Samson’s Match-Winning Knock: Sanju Samson starred with an incredible 89 off 42 balls, smashing seven sixes and eight fours, capitalizing on an early dropped catch to power India to one of the highest totals of the tournament.
Jacob Bethell’s Historic Century: Young England star Jacob Bethell delivered a sensational 105 off just 45 balls, scoring his maiden international century in a World Cup semi-final and keeping England’s chase alive.
Crucial Turning Points: A dropped catch by Harry Brook early in Samson’s innings and Bethell’s run-out in the final over proved decisive moments that ultimately sealed England’s heartbreaking 7-run defeat.
Road to the Final: After the dramatic England vs India T20 semi-final 2026, India advanced to face New Zealand national cricket team in the final, while England exit the tournament despite a heroic performance from their young batting lineup.
The England vs. India T20 World Cup semi-final was full of sixes and runs as I have ever seen. In the end, England made a lot of effort to win the match despite only losing by seven runs. My heart was racing as quickly as I watched on television because it was so near.
India batted first, and they scored 253 runs, which is like a mountain of runs. That’s the most runs England ever let the other team score in T20 cricket. The ball kept flying everywhere in the stadium, and the Indian fans were going absolutely mad.
But here’s the sad part for England fans. They dropped a catch early, and it cost them the whole match, really. And then India just never stopped hitting boundaries after that.
England’s bowlers had a really tough night. Jofra Archer had a particularly bad day because his four overs cost 61 runs, which is a lot of runs for a bowler. Adil Rashid was the best bowler for England with 2 wickets, but even he went for some runs.
Sanju Samson was the absolute star of the match for India, and he played one of the best innings I’ve ever seen in my whole life. He scored 89 runs from only 42 balls, which is just insane hitting. He hit seven sixes and eight fours, and every time he swung his bat, the ball disappeared into the crowd.
But here’s the craziest part about Samson’s innings. He should have got out when he was only on 15 runs. Harry Brook, the England captain, dropped a really easy catch at mid-on. It was a simple chance, and he just put it down with his hands all wrong. Samson couldn’t believe his luck, and after that, he just went crazy.
Samson was hitting every bowler everywhere. He hit Liam Dawson for 19 runs in one over, and then he hit Sam Curran for 20 runs in another over. He was just unstoppable. He made a huge partnership of 97 runs with Ishan Kishan, who also scored 39 runs super fast.
The best thing about Samson was that he didn’t play for his own hundred. When he was on 89 runs, he tried to hit another six but got out instead. He was trying to help his team get more runs instead of worrying about his own score. That’s what real team players do.
Samson’s innings set up the whole match for India. Without his runs, India would have only scored maybe 180 or 190, and England would have won easily. But because of him, India got to 253, which was just too many runs in the end, even with Bethell’s amazing hundred.
Then England had to chase 254 runs to win, which is like the second biggest chase ever in T20 cricket history. When Harry Brook got out for only 7 runs, England was in big trouble at 38-2. But then this young guy, Jacob Bethell, came to the crease, and he was just unbelievable.
Bethell is only young, but he played like a superstar. His second ball, he hit for six, and he just never stopped hitting boundaries. He got to his fifty in only 19 balls, which is super quick. Then he kept going and going and got to his hundred in 45 balls. That’s his first hundred for England, and it was in a World Cup semi-final, which is just amazing.
He hit eight fours and seven sixes in his innings of 105 runs. Every time he hit the ball it sounded so sweet. My little sister was jumping up and down on the sofa every time he hit a six. He made it look so easy, even though India has really good bowlers like Bumrah.
Will Jacks helped him a lot by scoring 35 runs from 20 balls, and they had a big partnership of 77 runs together. When Jacks got out, England needed 82 runs from 6 overs, which is totally possible in T20 cricket. But then other batters couldn’t stay with Bethell.
Sam Curran was at the other end with Bethell, but he couldn’t hit boundaries like Bethell was doing. The runs needed kept getting bigger and bigger. Then, in the second last over, Bethell hit a six off the first ball to get to his hundred. Everyone in our house was screaming so loudly.
But then only three more runs came from the next five balls, and Curran got out. So England needed 30 runs from the last over, which is really hard but not impossible if you hit sixes. But then the worst thing happened. First ball of the last over, Bethell got run out, and I couldn’t believe my eyes.
After that, Jofra Archer came in and hit three sixes, which was crazy, but it was too late. England finished on 246-9 and lost by just seven runs. So close but so far. I felt really sad for Bethell because he played the best innings I ever seen and still ended up on the losing side.
Amid this uncertainty, recent on-field performances have served as a reminder of cricket’s ability to shift narratives through sheer excellence. Jacob Bethell’s Ashes heroics in Sydney, which played a crucial role in England’s fightback, showcased how individual brilliance can momentarily rise above off-field tensions and refocus attention on the game itself.
Jacob Bethell’s Ashes Heroics Ignite England Fightback in Sydney
Harry Brook, the captain, was very honest after the match. He said he made a big mistake dropping Samson because catches win matches. He said Bethell was unbelievable and will earn serious money in his career and have a long career with England. Brook said Bethell showed the whole world how good he is tonight.
Brendon McCullum, the England coach, said he was incredibly proud of the team. He said at hostile ground with all the Indian fans supporting against them, the lads showed so much toughness to take the game so close. He said the young players have grown so much and should be proud of themselves.
McCullum also said he loves his job and would love to stay as head coach. He wants to help lead the team through to the next stage. After the match, he said he wants to go home and see some fast horses and play some shocking golf. That made me laugh a little bit.
India will now play in the final against New Zealand on Sunday in Ahmedabad. They are trying to win the World Cup again and keep their title. They looked really strong with the bat, especially Samson, but their bowlers also got hit a lot by Bethell. It should be a great final.
For England, it’s really sad to go out this way, but they showed so much fighting spirit. Jacob Bethell is definitely a star for the future, and I can’t wait to watch him play more for England. Harry Brook will learn from his mistake and become a better captain.
I think England cricket has a bright future with young players like Bethell, Brook, and all the others. They just need to keep believing and working hard. Maybe next time they will win the World Cup. I’ll definitely be watching and cheering for them again.
The match was one of the best games of cricket I ever watched in my whole life. So many sixes and fours and excitement right until the very last ball. That’s why I love cricket so much. You never know what’s going to happen next.
