Star Fast Bowler Harshit Rana Might Miss Most of IPL 2026 Due To Knee Surgery
  • Harshit Rana is likely to miss most of IPL 2026 after undergoing knee surgery in February following an injury during a warm-up match against South Africa national cricket team.

  • The young pacer also missed the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, despite being part of the initial plans, with Mohammed Siraj stepping in as a replacement.

  • Kolkata Knight Riders face a major setback in their bowling attack, especially after also losing Mustafizur Rahman ahead of the season.

  • KKR have added Blessing Muzarabani and will rely on bowlers like Matheesha Pathirana, Umran Malik, and Akash Deep to handle the pace attack.

  • Despite Rana’s absence, KKR have decided not to sign a replacement, showing confidence in their existing squad for IPL 2026.

This is really sad news for all Kolkata Knight Riders fans, including me. Our star fast bowler, Harshit Rana, is going to miss a big, big part of the IPL 2026 season because he had knee surgery in February. He got hurt during the T20 World Cup warm-up match against South Africa, and now he is doing his rehab, but nobody knows when he will come back.

The BCCI doctors are looking after him, but they haven’t given any date when he will be fit to play again. Harshit only bowled one over in that warm-up game, and then his knee started to hurt, and he had to stop bowling.

He Also Missed the T20 World Cup

This is like double trouble for Harshit because he also missed the T20 World Cup, which India won. He was supposed to play in that tournament, but because of this same knee injury, he had to sit out. Mohammed Siraj played instead of him, but only played one match against the USA.

On Sunday, he got the Best International Debutant award at the BCCI awards, but now he cannot even play cricket. Life is so unfair sometimes. He must be feeling very sad getting an award but not being able to play.

KKR's Pace Bowling Problems

KKR has so many problems with fast bowlers now. First, Harshit got injured, and they also lost Mustafizur Rahman because the BCCI told them to release him. This happened because India and Bangladesh had some political tension problems in December and January. So Mustafizur cannot play for KKR this year.

But then KKR got a new bowler from Zimbabwe, his name is Blessing Muzarabani. He is very tall, like 6 feet 8 inches, and bowls really fast. He left his Islamabad United team in the PSL to come and play for KKR. That is so nice of him.

KKR's Other Fast Bowlers

KKR still has some other fast bowlers in their team. They have Matheesha Pathirana, who is from Sri Lanka and bowls like Lasith Malinga with that slingy action. But even Pathirana had some fitness problems during the T20 World Cup with his calf. But the team thinks he will be okay for IPL.

They also have Indian bowlers like Vaibhav Arora, Akash Deep, Umran Malik, who bowls really, really fast, and Kartik Tyagi. And they have all-rounders like Cameron Green from Australia and Ramandeep Singh, who can also bowl fast. So maybe they have enough bowlers, but Harshit is still a big loss because he took 19 wickets in 2024 and 15 wickets in 2025. He was becoming such a good bowler.

KKR's First Match and Schedule

KKR’s first match is on March 29 against the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. That is going to be such a tough match because the Mumbai Indians are also a very strong team. They have won the IPL five times, and KKR has won three times.

After that, they will play against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants, and all these matches are at home in Kolkata and in the evening time. That is good because evening matches are so fun to watch.

Amid this uncertainty, recent on-field performances have served as a reminder of cricket’s ability to shift narratives through sheer excellence. Jacob Bethell’s Ashes heroics in Sydney, which played a crucial role in England’s fightback, showcased how individual brilliance can momentarily rise above off-field tensions and refocus attention on the game itself.

Will KKR Find a Replacement?

Actually, KKR said they will not find any replacement for Harshit Rana. They think they have enough fast bowlers in the team already. That is a little bit risky, but maybe they know better than we do. They are hoping that Pathirana will become fit and play later in the tournament. Pathirana cost them INR 18 crore, which is so much money, so they want him to play.

The IPL started on March 28, and the schedule for the first two weeks only is out till April 12. So we have to wait and see more matches later.

Final Thoughts

I am so, so sad that Harshit Rana cannot play. He was becoming my favorite bowler after watching him in the last two seasons. But injuries are part of cricket, and I hope he recovers fast and comes back stronger. KKR has a good team, but without Harshit, it will be difficult to win matches at the start.

I will still support KKR because Rinku Singh is there, and Sunil Narine is there. Let’s hope Blessing Muzarabani bowls really well and takes many wickets. And I hope Pathirana becomes fit soon because he is also very exciting to watch.

FAQs

Yes. The call has already been made, with the India series set to be the closing chapter.

A mix of things. The mental side started weighing heavier than the physical one. Add recurring injuries into that, and the balance slowly tipped away from continuing.

They did. The last WBBL season, in particular, felt different, not quite the same freedom, not the same control. That experience made the bigger picture clearer.

It’s significant. Beyond runs or catches, it’s about presence and authority on the field. Talent will come through, but replacing that kind of influence is never instant.
