INDIA CRUSHED BY SOUTH AFRICA IN T20 WORLD CUP! Winning Streak Ends in Disaster
  • India suffered a crushing 76-run defeat against South Africa in the Super Eight clash.

  • India’s batting collapsed to 111 all out, ending their 12-match World Cup winning streak.

  • David Miller (63) and Dewald Brevis (45) powered South Africa to 187/7.

  • Jasprit Bumrah was the lone bright spot with brilliant figures of 3/15 in 4 overs.

  • Selection calls and middle-order failures cost India dearly in a high-pressure match

A Really Bad Day at the Pitch

India’s second T20 World Cup Super Eight match was an absolute mix of mistakes and errors. At Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, they were playing South Africa. To win the match, India needed 188 runs. But the bowlers had a terrible game and ruined it. They feared the 90,000 people watching them and the high stress they were under. In the bowling, there was no strategy or match. Suryakumar Yadav and his team lost by a massive 76 runs because anything could have gone wrong.

The Batting Was a Big Embarrassment

India was on a 12-match winning streak in World Cups, but that all ended yesterday. The batting was a big shame. This is the same team that won the World Cup in 2024 and used to score big runs easily. But yesterday, at the halfway stage of their innings, they only had 57 runs and five wickets were already gone. It was a shocking collapse. They played bad shots, and there were no partnerships. The South African bowlers bowled really well, and India had no answers.

Top Order All at Sea

Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma played some really silly shots to get out. Abhishek Sharma scored his first run of the whole tournament with a boundary, but he still looked very shaky. He had no confidence at all. Tilak Varma is India’s number three batsman, but he also got out playing a bad shot. People are always talking about his slow strike rate. The selectors and captains keep backing him, but his batting is not giving anyone confidence.

Selection Mistakes Cost India

Washington Sundar was sent up the order to hit big shots by India, but it did not work at all. Another important issue was his selection for the team. The seasoned Axar Patel was also left out. He is the ice-captain, and he was on the bench for the next time in a row. When they were bowling and batting, India truly missed him. Only one person who fought hard, Shivam Dube, was successful. He gave up 42 points, which lessened the blowout. However, all were aware that India would suffer.

South Africa Bat First

Earlier in the day, South Africa batted first and scored 187 for 7. Jasprit Bumrah was the only good thing for India. He is an amazing bowler. He took 3 wickets and only gave away 15 runs in his four overs. Arshdeep Singh also bowled well from the other end. In the power play, India took three wickets and was on top.

Amid this uncertainty, recent on-field performances have served as a reminder of cricket’s ability to shift narratives through sheer excellence. Jacob Bethell’s Ashes heroics in Sydney, which played a crucial role in England’s fightback, showcased how individual brilliance can momentarily rise above off-field tensions and refocus attention on the game itself.

Miller and Brevis Fight Back

Then David Miller and Dewald Brevis came to bat. They were amazing. They made a partnership of 97 runs in just 50 balls. Miller looked very dangerous. He targeted India’s spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who is the number one T20 bowler in the world. In his first two overs, Varun gave away 28 runs. Miller hit him everywhere. The left-right batting of Miller and Brevis upset all of India’s plans. For a while, it looked like South Africa would score 200 runs easily.

Bumrah’s Brilliance and a Costly Last Over

India bowled better at the end to stop them. Bumrah was brilliant in his last two overs. He only gave away 8 runs. But the last over of the innings was bowled by Hardik Pandya. It was a disaster. Tristan Stubbs hit two sixes in a row on the last two balls. That took South Africa to a big score of 187. That gave them all the confidence and happiness. When India came out to bat, the South African bowlers had all the momentum, and they used it to crush India.

Brief Scores:

South Africa: 187 for 7 in 20 overs (David Miller 63, Dewald Brevis 45, Tristan Stubbs 44; Jasprit Bumrah 3/15, Arshdeep Singh 2/28).
India: 111 all out in 18.5 overs (Shivam Dube 42; Marco Jansen 4/22, Keshav Maharaj 3/24, Corbin Bosch 2/12).
