  • Suryakumar Yadav led from the front, including a crucial unbeaten 84 against the USA.

  • India’s bowling attack impressed, with Varun Chakravarthy picking up 9 wickets and Bumrah leading a balanced pace unit.

  • India now heads into the Super Eight stage (Feb 21–March 1) with strong momentum and title ambitions.

The stage is set for the Super Eight, and the defending champions are looking sharp. The T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, has been full of thrilling matches, and the Indian cricket team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, has given its fans plenty to cheer about. They finished the group stage with a perfect record—winning all four of their matches-thanks to a brilliant all-round performance by Shivam Dube against the Netherlands.

Let’s take a closer look at how India performed in the group stage, who the star players have been, and what’s coming up next in the tournament.

A Perfect Start for the Men in Blue

India, which was placed in Group A along with Pakistan, the United States, Namibia, and the Netherlands, was aware from the beginning that they had to perform at their best. And they did precisely that. Although it wasn’t simple, they did so with a victory over the USA as the start of their campaign. Suryakumar Yadav, India’s commander, hit a great 84-run knock to take the team to victory at one point while the nation struggled at 77/ 6. This immediately demonstrated the player’s commitment to combat.

Next, Namibia was given a massive 93-run victory. However, Pakistan was the suit everyone was hoping for. India put on a stellar all-around performance to gain the R. Premadasa Stadium match by 61 runs, with Ishan Kishan scoring a stunning 77. With their victory, they are now guaranteed a place in the following round.

Finally, in their last group game at the huge Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India, they beat the Netherlands. It was in this match that Shivam Dube became the star of the show.

The Shivam Dube Show

The Indian batters started a little weak after posting a high rating. However, Shivam Dube entered and entirely altered the sport. With only 31 balls, he quickly outlasted the Dutch bowlers, who were scattered throughout the park, to score 66 runs. His knock was brimming with powerful limitations and sixes, helping India score a remarkable 193/6.

Dube wasn’t finished, however, though. He took two crucial innings and won the match with a score of 2/ 35 when the Netherlands took the ball. His all-around performance was so admirable that Irfan Pathan, a former Indian all-rounder, claimed Dube has become “the first brand on India’s group sheet.” Paige applauded Dube’s improvement in his industry intelligence and his ability to bat faster against fast bowlers. With this victory, India now has 8 positions on the Group A leaderboard.

Team India's Report Card

India’s success in the group stage wasn’t just because of one player. It was a true team effort.

  • The Captain: Suryakumar Yadav led from the front with a calm and aggressive captaincy, and his unbeaten 84 against the USA was a masterclass.
  • The Wicketkeeper-Batsman: Ishan Kishan was in fantastic form, scoring 176 runs in the tournament, including a match-winning 77 against Pakistan.
  • The Mystery Spinner: Varun Chakravarthy has been a key weapon with the ball, picking up 9 wickets and troubling batsmen with his variations.
  • The Pace Attack: With Jasprit Bumrah leading the way, and Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj (who replaced the injured Harshit Rana) providing good support, the bowling attack looks balanced and deadly.

Amid this uncertainty, recent on-field performances have served as a reminder of cricket’s ability to shift narratives through sheer excellence. Jacob Bethell’s Ashes heroics in Sydney, which played a crucial role in England’s fightback, showcased how individual brilliance can momentarily rise above off-field tensions and refocus attention on the game itself.

What's Next? The Super 8 and Beyond

With the group stage over, the top two teams from each group have moved on to the Super Eight stage. From Group A, India and Pakistan have qualified. The other teams that have made it are Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe from Group B, West Indies and England from Group C, and South Africa and New Zealand from Group D.

The Super Eight matches will begin on February 21. The qualified teams will be divided into two new groups, and the top two from each will go to the semi-finals. India has been placed in a tough group and will face strong teams like South Africa in their first Super Eight match. The semi-finals are scheduled for March 4 and 5, with the final on March 8.

The Road to the Final is as follows:

  • Super Eight: February 21 – March 1
  • Semi-Finals: March 4 & 5
  • FINAL: March 8

It’s going to be an exciting couple of weeks. India has shown they have the talent and the confidence to go all the way. With players like Shivam Dube in such great form, the dream of winning the T20 World Cup for a third time is very much alive.
