A famous cricket player from Scotland, John Blain, is now back in the Cricket Scotland Hall of Fame. They took his name out almost four years ago because some people said he said something bad on a trip to Kenya back in 2007. But now they put him back in after finding out it wasn’t true what they said about him.

Who is This Cricket Guy Anyway?

So John Blain is 47 years old now, and he used to be a really good bowler for Scotland. He played for his country 118 times, which is a lot of games! That took him 13 years to do all that playing. He even got to play in the big World Cup in 1999, which must have been so cool. They put him in the Hall of Fame in May 2019 because he was so good at cricket.

What Happened and Why They Took Him Out

In July 2022, some other players named Majid Haq and Qasim Sheikh said that John said a racist word to them on that Kenya trip. So Cricket Scotland said okay we will take him out of the Hall of Fame for now until we figure out what happened. They didn’t tell anyone why they did this at first, which seems kinda weird if you ask me.

There was this big report that came out around the same time that said Cricket Scotland had problems with racism. Some people had to quit their jobs because of it. John also got in trouble with the England cricket people because of what Azeem Rafiq said about his old team, Yorkshire. In March 2023, they said six players, including John, did bad things.

The Truth Comes Out Finally

But then in January 2024, Cricket Scotland told John that the things people said about him weren’t true at all! They said there was no proof he did anything wrong. John was like I want everyone to know I’m innocent and said the English people made a mistake because they believed the wrong stuff.

John said in a statement that he is so thankful to all the people who believed in him when others were saying bad things about him. He said getting to play for Scotland 118 times was the best thing ever in his whole life, and when they took him out of the Hall of Fame, it made him and his family really sad.

What John Said About Getting Back In

He was like, “Thankfully, I got cleared after a really long time where I had to show them lots of proof that I didn’t do it.” John also said cricket is still a good thing in Scotland because it brings all kinds of people together to play. He thanked the Hall of Fame people for being brave and making the right choice.

He said, “The Cricket Scotland Board all agreed to put me back in, and that means so much to me I can’t even say it right.” John talked about how cricket gave him a job and taught him to work hard and be a good person. He also said he made lots of friends from playing cricket, even guys on other teams.

So now everything is good again for John Blain, and he’s back where he belongs in the Scottish Cricket Hall of Fame with all the other great players. His name is up there forever now, and nobody can take it away again.
