RCB Big Problem: Nuwan Thushara May Be OUT of IPL 2026 Because Sri Lanka Said No!

RCB Big Problem: Nuwan Thushara May Be OUT of IPL 2026 Because Sri Lanka Said No!
  • The IPL Captains Meet 2026 was held ahead of the season, where all team captains gathered to discuss rules, schedules, and preparations.
  • Captains from all 10 teams, including Rajat Patidar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Rishabh Pant, attended the meeting with officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
  • Key discussions focused on updated rules such as powerplay changes, Impact Player usage, over-rate penalties, and fair play guidelines to ensure smooth tournament conduct.
  • The captains were briefed on match schedules, venues across India, and travel plans, helping teams prepare strategies and manage workloads effectively.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru is in big trouble now. Their fast bowler from Sri Lanka, named Nuwan Thushara, is not going to play in IPL 2026 at all. Can you believe it? The match is starting tomorrow against Sunrisers Hyderabad, and they just found out their bowler cannot come.

Why Sri Lanka Said No No

So here is what happened. Sri Lanka Cricket, which is the big boss of cricket in Sri Lanka, said Thushara cannot go play in the IPL because he did not pass their new fitness test. They have this new rule now where every player must do a physical test, and only if they pass can they go play in the IPL, PSL, or any other league outside Sri Lanka.

The funniest thing is that Thushara is not even injured right now. He can bowl and everything, but the board says his fitness is not good enough for what they want. Thushara is 31 years old, and he has that cool slingy bowling action like Malinga, but still, they said no.

How Much Money Does He Lose

This is really sad because Thushara was going to get around 1.6 crore rupees from RCB for playing. Now, because Sri Lanka said no, he might lose all that money-gone just like that. Imagine saving your pocket money for something, and then someone says you can’t have it.

Other Players Got Yes

But wait, some other Sri Lankan players passed the fitness test, and they are playing IPL. Dushmantha Chameera and Pathum Nissanka are going to the Delhi Capitals. Dasun Shanaka is playing for the Rajasthan Royals. Kamindu Mendis is with Sunrisers Hyderabad. They all did the fitness thing properly and got their NOC, which is like a permission letter.

Even some other players like Wanindu Hasaranga and Matheesha Pathirana are still waiting because they are recovering from injuries. But Thushara is not injured; he just did not pass the test.

Thushara's Bad Luck Keeps Coming

This is not the first bad thing that has happened to Thushara, actually. He played really well in the Asia Cup 2025 and was important for Sri Lanka in that tournament. But then, before the T20 World Cup, they didn’t pick him, even when other fast bowlers were getting hurt and couldn’t play. That must feel so bad when your country needs bowlers, and they still say no to you.

Now, missing IPL also means he cannot show everyone how good he is. IPL is like the biggest stage for cricket, and now he is sitting at home.

Amid this uncertainty, recent on-field performances have served as a reminder of cricket’s ability to shift narratives through sheer excellence. Jacob Bethell’s Ashes heroics in Sydney, which played a crucial role in England’s fightback, showcased how individual brilliance can momentarily rise above off-field tensions and refocus attention on the game itself.

What RCB Does Now

RCB is already missing Josh Hazlewood because he is still getting better from his leg problem. Yash Dayal also cannot play because of some personal reasons. So now RCB has only Bhuvneshwar Kumar and some new bowlers like Jacob Duffy and Mangesh Yadav. This is a big headache for the team that won the IPL last year.

Chaminda Vaas, who was a great bowler from Sri Lanka, said this new rule is too strict and maybe SLC should have told players before, not suddenly just before IPL. He said it’s like poor planning, not discipline.

Final Thoughts

I think it’s really hard for players when the rules change suddenly. Thushara must be feeling very sad right now. But Sri Lanka also wants their players to be fit so they can win matches for the country. Both sides have good points. Anyway, I hope Thushara works hard and passes the test next time and comes back stronger.
